At Harbour Rise, we believe that getting out and about is just as important as the care we provide within our home. Fresh air, a change of scenery, and a bit of company outside our usual four walls can make such a difference to our residents’ wellbeing, and the past few weeks our residents enjoyed not one but two wonderful outings.
Making the Most of the Sunshine at The Railway Inn
A group of our residents, accompanied by members of our wonderful care team, set off for a classic Devon day out, taking in some of the sights around Paignton before making their way along the coast. There is something special about swapping the familiar surroundings of home for a bit of fresh sea air, and the smiles on everyone’s faces said it all.
The outing led us to our final stop of the day: The Railway Inn, a favourite local spot with a sunny beer garden and a warm welcome. It was the perfect place to rest, relax, and enjoy each other’s company.
A Visit to Churston Library
On another outing, a small group of our residents headed out to Churston Library for a lovely community trip, ably assisted by co-pilot Rex, who never misses a chance for a bus trip out. They took in some lovely scenery along the way too, making the journey just as enjoyable as the destination.
One of our residents, who is originally from Churston, was given the most wonderful surprise when his wife came to meet him there. One of our ladies returned her book and picked up some new ones to dive into, leaving with a very satisfying new pile. And another resident had her heart set on poetry, browsing the shelves and choosing some beautiful books to bring back with her.
Why Outings Matter
Our activities programme is built around keeping life at Harbour Rise varied, engaging, and enjoyable, from chair exercises and quizzes to music entertainment and themed celebration days. Trips like these are a wonderful complement to that, offering our residents the chance to enjoy the wider community, visit familiar places, and simply have a good time. Whether it is a pint in the sunshine or the simple pleasure of a good book, these are the moments that remind us why getting out and about matters so much. It is good for the soul.
We want to say a huge thank you to our brilliant care team for organising and supporting these trips, and to everyone who joined in and made them such happy days.
