Recruitment and Careers
Unlike many care homes, Harbour Rise does not employ agency staff, preferring instead to work with a local team and focus on ensuring we have a full team of our own staff.
“We are extremely proud to have such wonderful staff promoting the family culture of Harbour Rise. This provides the consistent quality of care you would expect and also brings comfort to our residents in building relationships and trust with recognisable faces. The average length of service for a member of staff is over 8 years. It is rare these days to have such a consistent and dedicated team to work with and we know that all our residents, families and friends value this too.
Careers
We love to recruit passionate staff who are keen to learn, and we like to give them the opportunity to progress further in their career. If you share our core values of being compassionate, caring, kind, honest, reliable, dedicated – and of course keen to learn – then we would love to hear from you. Our staff team is diverse and we welcome people from all backgrounds and experiences.
We have a friendly and welcoming team, good rates of pay plus enhanced training available. We offer regular shift patterns and contracted hours, wherever possible, and have weekly pay.
We offer roles within all areas of the Home, from Maintenance and Activity Assistants, working within the Daycare centre, Office and Admin, Care, Domestic, Laundry, and General Assistant. We have Kitchen, Driving, and Early Evening Lounge positions also. Shift types range from 8am to 8pm, 8am to 2pm, 2pm to 8pm, 5pm to 10pm, and 8pm to 8am, and 8am to 5pm.
If the above is of interest to you, then please email us at recruitment@harbourrise.co.uk and we would be happy to have an informal conversation with you about any current vacancies we may have at the time.
Staff Training
Training is an integral part of Harbour Rise and the care it gives to our residents. Here is a sample of what we do to ensure your loved one is cared for as you would expect. Harbour Rise employs more than eighty members of staff, many of whom hold NVQ2 qualifications. Training is provided by a number of professionals including Redcrier, an independent training provider, 3CP, a local training provider and the Torbay Care Trust, training at the Horizon Centre at Torbay Hospital. Diplomas are offered via a local training company called T2.U
Harbour Rise provides mandatory training as well as supplementary training. All carers who are new to the care industry will be trained in all 15 standards of the Care Certificate. This training is provided by 3CP training, based in Torbay and can be onsite or offsite. For carers that are experienced, and have received training before, any changes in legislation and their knowledge is refreshed by 3CP using the Standard 8 Refresher course.
Mandatory training includes: First Aid, Health and Safety, Induction, Food Hygiene and Safety, Fire, Infection Control, Moving and Handling (theory and practice), Safeguarding, Dementia, Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and Person Centred Approaches (PCA). Mandatory training such as Care Certificates and Standard 8 Refresher are provided by 3CP. Safeguarding, Dementia, MCA and PCA are covered by Redcrier, a distance learning training provider.
Additional training we provide includes: Death, Dying and Bereavement, Coping with Aggression, Equality Diversity and Inclusion, Dignity and Respect, Stroke Awareness and Diabetes. This training is provided by Redcrier. We provide further Dementia training, through NHS England, through CHES and also with the support of Purple Angel – a charity created by Norman McNamara who suffers from Dementia himself. We are now accredited by Purple Angel, which means that more than 95% of our staff have received this specific Dementia training. Once trained, the member of staff proudly wears the Purple Angel badge.
We also provide bespoke training such as Communication, which aims to help people who struggle with verbal communication by using visuals instead, Continence/TENA training, End of Life, GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), IDDSI (International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative) Oral Health and of course regular Fire Warden training.
We are also proud to have some “Harbour Rise Champions”, i.e. members of staff who are keen to learn further on specific topics volunteer to attend extra training on topics such as End of Life, Dementia and Parkinson’s, as well as Safeguarding Well Being, Autism, Infection Control etc. We have created two training rooms. Staff can have specific training and also access internet courses such as those provided by the NHS called ‘The Hive’. These staff will become points of reference on those dedicated areas, and help to create ‘Knowledge Boards’ which display bite sized information on each topic, for staff, visitors and our Residents to benefit from.
All our staff have regular supervisions and appraisals, developing growth plans and giving opportunities to discuss areas of development and an opportunity for supportive conversations.
