Harbour Rise is currently rated as Outstanding by CQC. Julia Welch is our Registered Manager. Harbour Rise does not use agency staff and its members of staff have been working for the home on average for about 10 years. Harbour Rise is privately owned and is not part of a chain. We are flexible and adaptable.

Harbour Rise is situated close to Paignton Harbour, with comfortable, bright and modern lounges, outstanding sea views and garden. All lounges are freshly decorated and with nice modern facilities. We pride ourselves with the recent remodelling of our ground floor completed in 2020. The renovation included a wonderful bright dining room, new commercial kitchen, Medication / treatment room and disabled toilets.

There are 40 lovely bedrooms with toilet en-suite facilities and four apartments that lead out onto our beautiful gardens. All bedrooms, bathrooms, showers and toilets are fitted with a wireless nurse call system. Bedrooms and apartments are wheelchair accessible with lifts to all floors. There is a dedicated telephone line for residents to talk to their loved ones using a hand free phone as well as tablets equipped with WhatsApp.

The bedrooms are decorated and designed to a high standard with televisions and electric profiling beds as standard. Residents are encouraged to bring small items of furniture and other keepsakes to help make their room a home from home.

Some of our rooms have a separate lounge, dining area and kitchenette with tea and coffee making facilities. Magnificent sea views or direct access to the gardens are also available from a number of rooms.

Harbour Rise has two bright lounges with wonderful sea views. The first lounge has a large seating area leading to an easily accessible balcony, providing outside seating overlooking the gardens with stunning views of the bay. The second lounge includes an unlicensed bar which provides us with a great versatile space to entertain our residents and guests during our many events. Harbour Rise also offers a very bright conservatory with outstanding sea views.

Dining Rooms and Kitchen
Harbour Rise has 2 dining rooms, one of which is south facing overlooking the large patio area. It includes the Harbour Rise Cuppa Café with facilities to make drinks for families and residents as well as cakes to enjoy. The café includes a comfy seating area and is a convivial friendly meeting area to chat with friends and family in relaxed surroundings. We are proud of our “Harbour Cuppa Café” and residents love to take their families “out” for a drink. The café can also be “booked” for private functions for residents such as birthday parties etc.

The second and main dining room was recently renovated and includes electric Velux windows for air flow circulation, open hatch for residents to view and smell the lovely home cooked meals as they walk in. Décor is homely and displays pictures of food and drinks to naturally encourage our residents to eat.

Harbour Rise offers a choice of breakfast, lunch menu and tea with delicious home cooking catering for all dietary needs with coffee, tea and biscuits being provided in the mornings, afternoons and evenings.

Our Staff
Harbour Rise Care Home has had considerable investment in recent years with a programme of updating the premises and equipment whilst investing in staff training and recruitment as a priority.

We are extremely proud to have such wonderful staff at Harbour Rise. Unlike many care homes, Harbour Rise does not employ agency staff. This provides the consistent quality of person centred care you would expect and also brings comfort to our residents in building relationships and trust with recognisable faces. Harbour Rise counts more than 80 permanent members of staff. The average length of service for a member of staff is over 6 years. It is rare these days to have such a loyal team to work with and we know that all our residents, families and friends value this too. Training is an integral part of Harbour Rise with staff being actively encouraged to gain qualifications with many being mandatory.

Harbour Rise Care Home provides wide ranging entertainment, arranging visits out on our mini buses. We welcome 2 to 3 entertainers per week who will come to sing, do craft or provide mindfulness activities. We have great fun organising big events such as our Christmas Market and our grand Summer Party. Every day is special here at Harbour Rise and we do our best to provide something to remember.

We have a dedicated library area with a modern reading machine which magnifies the test for the poorly sighted. We also have a library on wheels to enable us to provide choice to the resident’s bedrooms. We have a selection of board games and puzzles and also use contemporary technology, including Alexas and tablets, to add to the enrichment of our residents’ daily activities. We have a comprehensive range of physical activities including dancing, mobility exercises and ball games. Our lounge assistants love to organise craft sessions to seasonally decorate our lounges. Origami is a massive hit with our residents too!
