A Heartwarming Reunion: From Paignton Pier to Harbour Rise
Some reunions arrive quietly, and this one certainly did. Two members of our team, Katie and Kira, realised that one of our residents, Bob, was someone they had known long before either of them ever set foot in Harbour Rise.
Years ago, Bob was a familiar figure on Paignton Pier, running the cafe there along with its much-loved doughnut shop. Katie and Kira both worked alongside him as teenagers, and their memories of that time have stayed with them, particularly Kira’s, who was expecting her eldest daughter at the time and still recalls how thoughtful and supportive Bob was towards her.
Fast forward to today, and life has brought the three of them together again under one roof. Katie is now part of our care team, Kira works in our kitchen, and Bob calls Harbour Rise home. Anyone who spends time here will notice it: Bob’s face lights up in a particular way whenever Katie or Kira are nearby, a small but unmistakable sign of just how much that old friendship still means.
It is a gentle reminder of what makes a place like Harbour Rise more than just a care home. Behind the day-to-day routines are real histories, real relationships, and every so often, a story like Bob, Katie and Kira’s that shows just how far those connections can travel, and how naturally they can find their way back.

Our Regular Trip to Churston Library
It’s been a wonderful month of connection, both within Harbour Rise and out in the local community, and we’re already looking forward to what October has in store.
