At Harbour Rise Care Home, we are always looking for ways to create meaningful experiences for our residents and visitors, and recently we were delighted to welcome a very special guest – Patrick from The Adventures of Patrick the Pony.
Patrick’s visit brought joy, laughter, and plenty of smiles throughout the home as he spent time with both our day care visitors and full-time residents. From the moment he arrived, there was a wonderful sense of excitement, with residents eagerly gathering to meet him, stroke him, and enjoy his gentle and friendly nature.
Animal therapy has long been recognised for its positive impact on wellbeing. Interactions with animals can help reduce anxiety, lift mood, encourage social interaction, and provide comfort and companionship. During Patrick’s visit, we witnessed all of these benefits firsthand. Conversations flowed naturally, laughter filled the rooms, and many residents enjoyed reminiscing about their own experiences with animals.
For some residents, meeting Patrick was particularly meaningful. Several had owned, ridden, or cared for horses during their lives, and Patrick’s visit sparked a wealth of cherished memories. Stories of countryside adventures, riding lessons, family farms, and beloved horses were shared among residents, staff, and visitors alike
The atmosphere throughout the day was truly heartwarming. Seeing the smiles on residents’ faces and hearing the stories inspired by Patrick’s visit reminded us of the importance of creating opportunities that support emotional wellbeing and enrich daily life.
At Harbour Rise Care Home, it is these special moments that help make our home such a warm, caring, and vibrant community.
