Hairdressing at Harbour Rise: Supporting Wellbeing, Routine and Dignity

Feb 10, 2026

At Harbour Rise, wellbeing is about far more than day-to-day care. It’s about the familiar routines, personal choices and simple pleasures that help people feel like themselves. One of the most valued of these is our regular hairdressing service.

Every Thursday and every other Friday, our hairdressing salon comes to life, offering residents and day care guests a service that feels just like visiting a high street salon, but in the comfort and familiarity of Harbour Rise.

A full salon experience, without the stress of travelling Harbour Rise has a dedicated hairdressing salon, designed to feel welcoming, relaxed and sociable. On salon days, people can enjoy the whole experience they know and love:
● settling in with a magazine
● relaxing under the dryer
● sharing a coffee
● enjoying a chat with others in the salon

It’s a gentle, unhurried part of the day that many look forward to, and one that fits naturally into familiar routines.

Experience, trust and continuity

Our hairdressing service is provided by Nikki, an experienced professional with over 28 years in hairdressing and her own mobile business. She has been visiting Harbour Rise for two years now, building warm, trusted relationships and taking the time to get to know each person – their preferences, personalities and stories.
As she says herself:
“I absolutely love it, I find it so rewarding. It’s lovely to meet all the residents, get to know their personalities and hear their stories. It’s nice to see how it lifts their day and how good it makes them feel.”

More than a haircut

While a fresh style is always appreciated, the real value of the hairdressing service lies in its wider impact on wellbeing. For many older people, going to the hairdresser has always been part of life – a marker of independence, self-expression and care for oneself.

At Harbour Rise, this service helps to support:

● Confidence and self-esteem – feeling well-groomed can make a real difference to how someone feels
● Routine and familiarity – maintaining habits from home brings reassurance
● Social connection – shared time in the salon naturally encourages conversation and companionship
● Dignity and identity – personal choice and self-care remain central

When visiting a high street salon is no longer possible, having this experience continue in a familiar, supportive environment can be incredibly meaningful.

Open to residents and day care guests

Our hairdressing salon is available to both residents and day care guests, ensuring everyone can access this important part of everyday life at Harbour Rise.

It’s one of the many thoughtful details that reflect our belief that every day should feel normal, dignified and enjoyable.
