At Harbour Rise, we believe that it’s often the small, thoughtful touches that make the biggest difference to someone’s day. Recently, we were delighted to receive a very special gift from our local community – a collection of beautifully handmade fidget lap quilts, created and donated by Paignton Embroidery & Creative Textiles, led by Susan Pugsley.These quilts have already become a much-loved addition to daily life at Harbour Rise, offering comfort, reassurance and gentle engagement for residents living with dementia.What are fidget quilts?
Fidget quilts (sometimes called sensory or activity quilts) are specially designed lap quilts, carefully made with a variety of textures, fabrics and interactive features. They often include items such as buttons, zips, ribbons, pockets and different materials to explore by touch.
For people living with dementia, these quilts can provide a calming, familiar activity for the hands, particularly during moments of restlessness or anxiety.
