Supporting Local Carers: Our First Carer and Cared For Peer Support Group

Jan 15, 2026

Earlier this week, Harbour Rise was proud to host our very first Carer and Cared For peer support group, in partnership with Torbay Communities. It was a truly heart-warming afternoon and a wonderful example of what can happen when a community comes together.

We were delighted to welcome seven local carers and cared-for individuals, alongside three community builders, as well as the owners and manager of Harbour Rise. Over refreshments and a freshly baked lemon drizzle cake, carers were able to take a moment for themselves, relax, and connect with others who understand the realities and emotional journey of caring for a loved one.

The room quickly filled with conversation, shared experiences and gentle laughter. It was moving to see new connections forming and such a supportive, understanding atmosphere throughout the afternoon. Creating safe, welcoming spaces like this is incredibly important to us, and it was clear how valuable it was for carers to feel listened to, supported and not alone.

At Harbour Rise, we believe caring for carers is just as important as caring for those they support. As a care home rooted in the Torbay community, we’re proud to work alongside local organisations to offer opportunities for connection, reassurance and shared understanding.

We’re pleased to confirm that the next Carer and Cared For peer support group will take place in February, and we would love to welcome more carers from the local community. Follow the Harbour Rise facebook page for more information.
