The Purple Angel Dementia Campaign

Oct 9, 2024

On September 1st, The Purple Angel Dementia Campaign held its annual sponsored walk, from Torre Abbey Green to Harbour Rise Care Home in Paignton. Volunteers, friends, family and even a resident joined the 3 mile walk in support of this fantastic cause, founded by Norman McNamara after his own dementia diagnosis at 50, it aims to raise awareness and promote dementia-friendly communities.

Norman McNamara said: “I would like to thank Mark and Cecile Edwards, owners of Harbour rise care home in Paignton, who have hosted our sponsored walk for years providing teas, coffee and snacks at the end free of charge. I would also like to thank all care homes who saw carers come along on the day and participated, as well as friends of the memory cafe and volunteers from the Purple Angel.

“All monies raised will go towards helping those in the bay who are affected by this awful disease, we are, as far as we know, the only dementia charity in the UK where every penny raised goes back to those who are in need. We are all volunteers with no wages paid, something we are very proud of.”

Registered Manager, Julia Welch shared the story with friends & family stating how much fun the whole event was and how proud they were to be joined by one of their super-fit residents, Judith Rundle. Well done all, we are very proud of you all!
