All our members of staff and residents have been offered the Covid-19 vaccine on 7th January and it went really well. So far, all residents and members of staff have been well and there is no significant after effect sign apart from a sore shoulder.
We are immensely proud to have been the first home within the bay to be chosen for the vaccine, it talks volume to us. The Torbay Care Home Visiting Service who administered the vaccine were very complimentary to us. It was also their first Covid-19 vaccination experience and needless to say all military precautions were taken to bring the vaccine from the ERC to Harbour Rise and mainly maintaining the right temperature. Once the vaccine was reconstituted, it was essential to keep movement to an absolute minimum. Vaccinating bed-bound residents was more challenging but we made it! The first vaccine was given to Stan who is 101, followed by a huge round of applause and a little tear in my eye may I add.
2021 Day 8: so far we have had Lockdown on day 4 and Covid-19 vaccination roll out Day 7! January is generally a very slow month but obviously not at Harbour Rise this year! What an emotional start to the year we have had but we are so happy!
Moving forward, this means that we will be waiting for the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to complete our Covid-19 course. We have been told it could take within 3 weeks to 3 months and we will notify you as soon as we have been told. Although our Covid-19 immunisation has started, by no means should we relax. We will carry on using our solid infection control practise and wearing PPE, washing hands and checking temperature daily. It also means that we will not open yet for regular family visits and we will carry on encouraging you to use our visiting pod 1, skype and using our residents phone line: 01803 55 88 16. This will maintain our residents’ well-being and keep both our residents and staff safe. During lockdown, please remember residents can receive one nominated visitor per week. It is essential that you book your visit in advance – especially at the weekend – and that it is always the same person to visit.
