A chance encounter brings back many happy memories and friends

Eileen Whitehall, a resident of Harbour Rise Care Home, was enjoying a morning out in Stoke Gabriel when two ladies recognised her from years ago.

Eileen takes up the story: ‘Harbour Rise take us on wonderful trips and on this particular morning we went crabbing at Stoke Gabriel followed by tea and cakes in the cafe. Two of my work colleagues from forty years ago saw me and came to talk to me! Sue Hicks and Gill Martin worked with me at the Torbay Paignton & Brixham News, as part of the sales team.’

Mark Edwards, the co-owner of Harbour Rise, heard about this amazing reunion and arranged a tea for them all, plus two other work colleagues, Margaret Carswell and their boss Chris Fitton.

Eileen continues: ‘It was so nice catching up on old times, looking at photos and reminiscing about the fun we all had, including me standing on a desk as a mouse ran around the office. I not sure who was the most scared me or the mouse! We worked together for over ten years so we had a lot to catch up on.’

Mark says: ‘We arrange many excursions for our residents and it was so heartwarming to see the results of this particular trip reuniting old friends’

Resident Eileen Whitehall met up with four of her work colleagues from 40yrs ago where they shared happy memories and looked at old photographs that Margaret had brought with her. They had tea and cake.

They all worked together 40yrs ago for the Torbay Paignton & Brixham News as the sales team.
They were:
Chris Fitton (he was the sales manager) and the lady’s boss at the time.
Sue Hicks
Gill Martin
Margaret Carswell

They worked together for over 10yrs until they made career moves and went separate ways.
Eileen’s friends said she was always very glamourous and kind never bossy.
Gill remembers Eileen standing on her desk when a mouse was seen running around the office. Chris was in his office at the time.

They all used to take turns making the drinks and said it was such a fun place to work and have very fond memories of their time together.

One time they entered Paignton Carnival and Chris dressed as Mr Torbay the ladies were his hareem.
