National Citizen Scheme

We were approached by a group of participants of the NCS to ask if they could come in to the home to provide a session of activities and a coffee morning. After a meeting with some of the group and their team leader it was arranged that they come on the 1 st August.

A group of fourteen14-16year olds came to the home on the day and spent the morning either chatting to residents who were in their rooms or painting plant pots with residents to use in the garden. Norrms McNamara visited the home to meet the group and give a talk on dementia.

In the afternoon they provided a cream tea for the residents which was enjoyed by all.

It was a good experience for the young people as many of them had not had previous interactions with older people. The residents enjoyed the interactions and there was a lot of laughter during the painting activity as the art work progressed.

We have a mural on our dining room wall which we are encouraging everyone to draw a picture on, the NCS group added some pictures to this.

The group also held a sponsored walk in aid of Purple Angel and raised over £100. This was presented to Norrms McNamara.
